reader response two:huck finn 7-13

1. There are many people that influence huck. Tom sawyer influences huck with bad things. “tom whispered to me and wanted to tie Jim to a tree for fun but I said no” (page 4, paragraph 4) tom tells huck to do bad things that would get him in trouble.
2. Miss Watson. Influences huck in a good way. “Don’t scrunch up like that huckleberry sit up straight”. (Page 2 paragraph 3) she tells huck to not scrunch up to help him have good posture. She would like for huck to grow up as a good man.
3. Pap is a bad influence on huck. He let huck do what he would like to do and that was bad things. Pap only liked huck for his money and he really didn’t love huck. He would also leave huck and not come back for hours. “he would sleep and get strong and then see who was who”. (page22 paragraph 3)
4. jim was a good influence on huck. He was very intelligent and never put huck down or let him do bad things. They became friends. “he said it would fetch bad luck”. (page 39 paragraph 3) he trys to help huck and influence him in a good way.

huck finn reader response 1-6

Huck Finn reader response 1: (1-6)
10/10/07

Racism

Paragraph 1:
The quote in the book that deals with my theme is: “I says to people, why aint this n-word put up at auction and sold. (Chapter 6, page20, end of last paragraph.) The quote in my own words is: I say to people why isn’t this African American sold as a slave. (Like they used to be.)

Paragraph 2:
I think that the quote is disrespectful. I think that it was very mean for hucks father to say that but back when the book was written slavery was anew and wasn’t illegal and as offending as it is today. This quote relates to my life because I am living in a community with people of different race and culture but I don’t believe that just because they are of a different culture they should be sold off for slavery. Its just rude.

Paragraph 3:
I think that mark twain thought that the quote was not a big deal. He was just a satire. Racism is a important topic and he tried to make it funny. Now he would probably think it was a stupid thing to write. He probably lived with people of different color and race like I did.

october 3rd journal

i think that in todays society african americans and white americans talk differently. people do talk differently but it is not because of their race, sex, or religion. people talk differently because of their surroundings and the neighborhood they grew up in. lets say one african american person lives in georgia and one lives in california they can talk differently and it is not because of their race.
